In Days of Old When Knights were Bold

A poster from a 1936 film.

The romance of the middle ages has long been a part of our mental baggage.

Of course, this was always my favorite comic!

The romance of the middle ages hasn’t gone away. I’m amazed at all the films that are vaguely medieval with swords, steeds, and strong women fighters

How could I not want to write a historical novel about Ermengarde, a real person, a woman warrior, who successfully navigated the power politics of 12th-century Southern France?

About medievalphyllis

I love history and I love writing. I've been working on an historical novel about a medieval viscountess, Ermengarde of Narbonne since 2009. It has been quite a journey and the journey isn't over. Previously I written 6 historical novels for kids, but this is a new challenge.

  1. I used to love reading Prince Valiant! And I was happily surprised at the latest iteration of the Robin Hood tale. Give me swords and castles and I’m a happy camper. 🙂
