Medieval Fabrics

In 2009, I visited the Monastero de Santa Maria la Real de las Huelgas:

The monastery was wonderful, but what really wowed me was an exhibition of medieval fabrics from the 13th and 14th centuries. It made me wonder what kinds of fabrics were available in the 12th century when Ermengarde lived.

I began studying the clothing in medieval manuscript illuminations and frescos and found a wealth of sophisticated fabrics and designs.

You can see some of the richness by looking at the photos on Wiki.  Great stuff!

About medievalphyllis

I love history and I love writing. I've been working on an historical novel about a medieval viscountess, Ermengarde of Narbonne since 2009. It has been quite a journey and the journey isn't over. Previously I written 6 historical novels for kids, but this is a new challenge.
