Daily Living in the Twelfth Century

People usually find what they look for and I’ve been looking for the twelfth century. I recently found a wonderful book. Daily Living in the Twelfth Century, by Urban Tigner Holmes, Jr.

Did you know?

“A hall in a castle would have reminded us somewhat of a zoo” p. 231 and that a witch when caught should be branded with the key to a church door p. 241. Men tried to keep clean-shaven, but generally didn’t undergo the difficult operation more than once a week p.165.

How could you live without these telling details?

About medievalphyllis

I love history and I love writing. I've been working on an historical novel about a medieval viscountess, Ermengarde of Narbonne since 2009. It has been quite a journey and the journey isn't over. Previously I written 6 historical novels for kids, but this is a new challenge.
