Marsh Haven Writers’ Retreat

I have always dreamed of going somewhere and having a few days just to write. My dream came true this September. I spent 3 1/2 days at March Haven Writers’ Retreat near Bellhaven, North Carolina.

Marsh Haven

Bellhaven, NC is about 175 miles due south of Williamsburg and the retreat site, as the name suggestions is a property with marshes on both sides of it. This isolated spot, on a deserted creek, is a peaceful place that enabled me to get away from the pressures of daily life and focus on writing.

A comfortable place to sit, plenty of light, quiet and my computer.

Marsh Haven boasts seven bedrooms and another writer and myself had the upstairs all to ourselves. We began each day with yoga and meditation and managed an exhausting and exhilarating five hours of writing.

Light, nourishing, attractive fare for hungry writers

The food was extraordinary and our host genial.

The weather was murky, but our spirits were bright. I was able to complete the second revisions of my novel.

It was a memorable, extraordinary experience.

About medievalphyllis

I love history and I love writing. I've been working on an historical novel about a medieval viscountess, Ermengarde of Narbonne since 2009. It has been quite a journey and the journey isn't over. Previously I written 6 historical novels for kids, but this is a new challenge.
